Foundation of one of the major global electronics manufacturer was laid in 1891 when Gerard Philips established a company for «manufacturing of glow-lamps among other electric appliances» in Eindhoven (Holland). Initially the company was focused on production of carbon coil glow lamps.

At the turn of the centuries the company became one of the biggest manufacturers in Europe. Development of lighting technology that followed prompted the expanding of production. In 1914 an R&D laboratory was launched to research physical and chemical phenomena to ensure further development of innovative technologies.

Presently Philips is a leader in digital technology. World class products marketed by the company contribute to improvement of quality of life in the new millennium. Nowadays Royal Philips Electronics is one of the world’s largest electronic companies.
